dream wedding

1, 2

Quite literally.

The other night I had a dream that I was getting married and I was wearing a very tight black sparkly dress, very similar to the one above but with a skinny silver belt around the waist and without the poofy sleeves (which were short or long, I can't remember). I also had three diamond encrusted onyx rings of varying sizes and styles.

I swear I'm not gothic, but it's very astronomy- and constellation-inspired which I am totally for! So, if you have any onyx rings lying around, feel free to send them my way! I also wouldn't mind wearing that Elie Saab creation (who just so happens to be my absolute favorite designer).

What do you think?

This amazing poem was written especially for me on a typewriter. I chose the topic of Astronomy and a few minutes later, I held this poem in my hand. Find out why here.

the space age

The lovely Charlotte over at The Daily Snapshot recently emailed me some photos she'd taken at the Exploratorium during her trip to San Francisco (the second and fourth ones). She said that they reminded her of me and asked if I'd be willing to collaborate on a post with her. As soon as I saw her pictures, I got excited!

The picture of dry ice dissolving is eerily similar to the spirals of galaxies, and the ring and its shadow immediately reminded me of the rings of Saturn. I wish I could write something more profound, but it's probably best conveyed when put simply:

Nature repeats itself. Even something that occurs in the far reaches of outer space can be seen on the tiny planet we live on.

I love science! Now go see Charlotte's post here.

I love how you can see the faint blue detail in the shadow of the moon in that first picture! Oh, astronomy, how I love thee...

far far away

It has been way too long since I've done a pure astronomy post on here!

These take my breath away... The photographer, David Malin, is one of my favorites. I also blogged about him here and here.

hello monday

Good morning! How was your weekend?

Mine was okay. I was looking forward to an entirely warm weekend but it was cloudy and rainy for most of it, though it did get warm on Sunday. (Yet I was still too preoccupied with watching Law & Order: SVU episodes to really enjoy it.) I spent the rest of my weekend dog-sitting, watching that Netflix movie (which I didn't really like that much), finishing that new book (which I didn't really like that much either - it was good but I think I had way too high expectations. It felt like it was written for middle school age; however, the author did write another version twenty years later and apparently it's more adult, so I'm going to give that one a try.)

Since the temperature was finally warm enough on Sunday, I finally got a chance to spray paint some picture frames that have been sitting around for awhile! They were black and I wanted them white. How is it that I always manage to mess up something that I'm trying to fix? Shouldn't spray paint be one of the easiest things in the world? Maybe they didn't turn out as bad as I was thinking, but they still aren't perfect. And they still need another coat so I have to make yet another trip to Lowe's.

Five more days until the end of the week. Blah!
