about & faq

Hello and welcome to my little blog full of the pictures I find and things I love!

My name is Andrea Despot and I'm a photographer. After years of doing the whole long distance thing, I recently joined my fiancĂ© by moving across the country from my small hometown in southern Virginia, to San Francisco, California! I'm extremely excited about this new chapter in our lives and, like many before me, have fallen head over heels in love with this amazing city. I'm currently working at Williams-Sonoma (and very much enjoying their amazing employee discount), a local flower shop (which has inspired many a picture as of late), and freelancing through my own business, Andrea Despot Photography. You can find my prints for sale through my Etsy shop as well as follow my work through flickr and facebook. I also blog regularly on my photography blog where I post only my own images and update about my current projects.

A little more about me: I'm a reader and dreamer, chai-tea drinker and Starbucks-addict who loves astronomy, time travel, collecting postcards, being super organized and buying way too many books. I'm a voracious reader and, if you're interested, you can follow what I'm reading on Goodreads.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions!

FAQ

Why the title, The Lighthouse Keeper?

It most likely stems from a book I read when I was younger, but I've long dreamed of being a lighthouse keeper. Now that lighthouses have electric bulbs, it's an impossible dream. But back when they were lit by fire, I would want to be the one venturing up the long, spiraling staircase to the top of the lighthouse that sits on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the pounding waves of the sea on a dark, stormy night. It sounds like such a romantic life...

I love the ocean. I love looking out onto the vast horizon. It's akin to why I love looking at the stars on a clear night. There's so much space that it's impossible to comprehend. Looking at the ocean is the same way: you can't see the end. It's so hard to imagine that on the other side of that giant body of water is another continent, another world. I would love to live next to the ocean, keeping a lighthouse, laying in my bed at night as the light goes round and round, shining into my window. I've always thought that from far away, a lighthouse is so comforting. Whenever I see the twinkle of the light from a distance, I get a surge in my heart, a feeling of utter perfection, that everything is as it should be.
