day 06 - a picture that inspires me

With all the soft black & white pictures I've been posting, you might think this is a little out of place when in fact this is the kind of photography I love to do! I took this picture in my Studio Lighting class in college. Our assignment was to shoot anything and somehow I came up with this concept of shooting glass in black line with a red gel background, a yellow flower lit from the front but with only the light hitting the flower and not the glass. Keep in mind I had to do all this while shooting on 4x5 color slide film on a large format camera! This meant I had no luxuries of a digital camera. I had a couple of black & white polaroids to use as test shots and that was it!

Ultimately I was extremely happy with how the photograph turned out! I love the bright red and yellow, the clean lines of the glass, and the composition. This photograph inspires me to shoot more like it. I did it once, and this proves it is possible for me to do more work like it again!

I discovered your blog through Village's Photo Challenge...
WoW! This photo is beautiful! And what's so impressive is that it isn't the result of post processing or digital trickery. (which is what I typically rely on...)
Really, really nice work.
