marie antoinette

I first saw Marie Antoinette with a friend when it came out in 2006. We both agreed that it would be better as a coffee table book with accompanying CD soundtrack: it was so pretty but really rather boring!

Flash forward to this year and my friend tells me she watched it again and actually liked it! So I gave it another try, and lo and behold, I didn't find it so boring either! I guess it took 4 years of maturity for us both to feel sorry for Marie instead of just think of her as bratty and annoying (she was only a kid!). Plus, maybe our tastes have changed since then. I find I can sit through slow-paced movies (most foreign ones are) and actually enjoy them. Not everything has to be American, fast-paced and all thought out for you...

Anyway, everything about the movie is insanely pretty, so of course I had to blog about it!

I love the one with the converse all stars photoshopped in :)

they actually aren't photoshopped in! according to imdb.com:

"In one scene while Marie Antoinette is getting ready, a pair of blue Converse tennis shoes are visible in the scene. Sofia Coppola has stated in interviews that the shoes were purposely put in the shot to portray Marie-Antoinette as a typical teenage girl, despite the time she lived in."

i love this film! it is pretty much all looks not much substance, but it looks amazing. It's sort of like watching photographs, instead of a film. There;s no major plot to follow, no witty dialogue, no clever twists..... but it looks amazing and sometimes thats all you need! xx

lavelle - yeah that's why we found it so boring the first time! but i guess it just doesn't bother me much now, it's just sooo pretty!

I read the book this movie was based from, and they pretty much made it exactly correct. Which makes me happy because that rarely happens.

I have never seen the converse tennis shoes!!! Wow.

I've always considered this movie as artistic shots with good music...so coffee table book is the right description there. But I love just relaxing and watching it. It's beautiful.

(P.S. I bought my copy at Versailles just so I could say that, it was expensive, but I bought it there! lol)

I loved this movie completely! The storyline, the actress (I adore her!) the clothing and the overall look! So so pretty!! Glad you came around and saw it again and likes it :)
BTW, I finally saw Letters To Juliet... Pretty and sweet, but oh my, it is such a chick flick... My poor someone sat and watched it with me without any of us realizing what we had gotten ourselves in to... lol
