Sorry to be absent so much last week! I've been working ten days straight and I'm exhausted. Add to that we found mold growing in our closet, on the backs and bottoms of our dresser and night-stands and even our bed. Our bed! This is a completely unacceptable situation and I'm so in shock I almost can't be angry. Though I am. Very very angry. We're going to the rental office soon (though I still have to be at work this afternoon). I just hope this isn't the beginning of an uphill battle...
If anyone has any advice on how to deal with a situation like this, our rights, etc. I would greatly appreciate it!

ugh...so gross with the mold, i feel your pain. i hate to say it, but it's probably an uphill battle. your specific rights as tenants will vary by city, so anyone not living in sf won't be able to help. (for what it's worth, berkeley has really strong renter protection, mostly in the form of rent control, but for something non-life-threatening like mold -- which we're dealing with, too -- it's next to impossible to get the landlord to do anything.) plus, usually you sign something when you move in saying everything is clean and acceptable, and i've had several landlords in various cities hide behind that -- if it was fine when we moved in, then everything after MUST be our fault (never mind that you can clean off mold and it will grow back if the dampness conditions haven't changed...). sorry to hear about your bed -- that's the worst. at this point, we're just facing it on the outer walls and the bottoms of some wood furniture. =/
that's terrible! I'm sorry to hear this. It's completely unacceptable and should be sorted out by the landlord.
That makes me so sad! I'm really sorry. Any news?
